This book traces the history and development of the machine gun from the origin of gun-powder through the slow evolution of firearms to the modern weapons in use today. The text is enhanced with over 240 photographs and diagrams . A table of machine gun data gives the essential details of a very large number of guns – some of which never got beyond the prototype stage. The weapons used by the American, British and Russian Armies are dealt with in some detail and some possible developments in the future are suggested.
